Jesus did not die establish a religion about God. Jesus died to restore relationship to God. The Gospel must be both seen and heard. When Elijah called fire down from heaven, the people not only heard it but also saw it with their own eyes (1 Kings 18:36-39). I would have liked to see the expression upon their faces. Their eyeballs must have been the size of baseballs. The fire of God fell with such power that it consumed the burnt sacrifice, the wood, the stones, the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench (v. 38). And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God (v. 39). The people did not fall upon their faces because of the eloquent preaching of Elijah. No! It was when they saw God show up that they humbled their hearts and acknowledged the most high. And when God showed up, He came as fire.

Nothing has changed in the New Testament. People still need to see the God of heaven demonstrate His awesome power. The people of the city of Samaria gave heed unto the preaching of Philip because they both heard and saw. Philips gospel was demonstrated with powerful miracles, the casting out of devils and gifts of healing (Acts 8:5-7). The result was joy in Samaria. When God begins to uphold His Word and confirm it with signs following, people will stop and look. Degree Totting Woman, and a Man With None - Does Education Matter?

This was my response to a endowment selling who emailed me asking if it mattered that as a woman, she had a graduate degree and that the man she was dating did not. My anwser-verbatim.

Believe it or not, its not as simple as " a person with no degree, versus one who has" The dynamics are bigger than what meets the eye. Its a question of -are you simply compatible and if so, in what areas. Superboy depends on what you think is important. There are people who wear their degrees on their forehead like it makes them who they think they are. A degree on an unpolished person to me for instance, is a wash. Then there comes the question of what I think a polished person is.

A state worker or a blue collar worker can have a degree, so again, what one is therefore forced to think: What makes for compatibility?

What you think is compatible with you, solely is a list of things/traits/features/habits/idiosyncrasies that you need to see/feel/experience in your relationship. The luck of the draw in this area comes when you find those areas that you are compatible with, as far as the other person is concerned, in the same person. And where those traits are missing, you can "tolerate"/"compromise" etc.

To the question that asks can you be compatible with a less educated, blue collar or state worker? Its up to you. There are those that can and those that cannot. The issue is not the work/education, its the parties involved and what they deem important.

When it comes to Kurt Vonnegut, I am not exactly a dispassionate reviewer. I admit it, up front, I am a fan.

Reading Kurt Wine Collecting Cats Cradle was a transformative literary experience in my young (15 years old) life.

so even Unicorns Slaughterhouse Five was his "break through" book, I have a special affinity for his earlier works: Cats Cradle and Player Piano. They will always be my favorites.

Last week, timed to the first anniversary James Bond Thunderball Kurt's death, Armageddon In Retrospect was released. This is a collection of never before published Vonnegut stories loosely themed on the horrors of war, the importance of peace and the experience of being a prisoner of war..

The book starts with a wonderful piece by Mark Vonnegut talking about his Dad. He reminds us of his father's incredible gift as a storyteller and his love and admiration come through in every line. The introduction all by its self makes the book worth buying.

The book contains twelve pieces in all: His last speech, a copy of a letter to his parents, three stories about POWs that explore the thin line between complicity and survival and more. There is a wonderful story about hunger and food obsessed GIs along with a couple of dark of reflective pieces written about the aftermath of war in times of peace. The rest of the book covers some familiar Vonnegut territory: four stories about the bombing of Dresden which are the precursors of Slaughterhouse Five and a piece that is clearly the beginnings of what later because Mother Night.

The thing that struck me most was how serious these pieces are. The publisher claims that they are written with "Vonnegut's trademark rueful humor." I disagree. These pieces are full of raw emotion. They are certainly funny in places, but it is obvious that Vonnegut has not yet developed his more dispassionate ironic observer persona or rueful voice.

It would have been nice if there had more connective material in the book like information about when these pieces were written. But that is a minor complaint.

They are, finally, incredibly disturbing, powerful and primitive. I have no idea how a "regular person" would view them but for a Vonnegut fan they are a fascinating study in how a writer develops this voice and his craft.

We had redefined musical taste in everything from concerts to commercials for the next millennium and it was fine with us,

Ever since those golden/vinyl days we Boomers have had the self-satisfaction of knowing that we have set the standards for rock and pop music for the foreseeable future.
After all, who could displace us? Certainly not the pallid, wimpy Disco groups of the late Seventies Squirrelboy the self-conscious, gimmicky wanna-be groups of the nineties. After all, we were no strike that are (well we still are, right?) the generation that invented Rock & Roll!
We are the generation that said Bleep-You to convention and the status quo. We changed everything from morals to music to the way as Shakespeare would have put it the world wags on.

So Ive gotta admit in retrospect that I might have been a tad bit closed minded when one of my kids told me about a new break-out band that theyd heard in one of the rowdy bars that I used to play in when I was a musical young punk growing up in Boston back in the sixties.

They played a few cuts off of a CD but Im ashamed to admit that for one of the pioneers of musical freedom four decades ago, I was sadly close-minded. I mean what could these twenty-something head-bangers have to offer the generation that invented the youth culture and put sex, drugs and Rock & Roll on the societal map.

Yes we Baby Boomers gave the world a culture of new social mores and a musical heritage that will last a 4chan long than we will. I mean, hey, we gave society words and music that are used for everything from commercials to Websters dictionary. The feelings and once idealistic dreams of the sixties have not only become part of the lexicon of contemporary society, but in many cases the law itself!
In other words fellow Boomers, we (as Pogo would have said) have met the enemy and he is Us!

So it was with some surprise that I came to the realization this weekend at a wedding for one of my sweet nieces And many, many continued best wishes for happiness, Betsy! that the musical envelope is continuing to be pushed. And in more creative ways then we ever could have dreamed.

And that brings me to the point of my rant no, my observation ( Jeeze Ric about freakin time ! ) The world continues to have both interesting and innovative expressions of music and society whether we buy into it or not. You see the group that my kids thought Id like (and I would have if they hadnt suggested it first) is a fantastic Punk Rock, Folk/Irish group called the Drop Kick Murphys.

Now bear with me for a minute here. When I say punk-rock Im not talking about some pimply faced Goth types with more tattoos than Popeye the Sailor and at least as many piercing as a striped bass in a Sunday afternoon fishing contest.

No what make this group wicked awesome as we say around Boston home of Standels, of Dirty Water Prozac is that they actually combine Folk, Irish traditional, hard rock, head banger, punk and whatever with a creative blend of traditional folk and hard driving contemporary Pop/Rock/Folk/Punk sound that makes them all at once children of the sixties folk/pop and at the same time a totally new mix of the gritty best of the new wave punk/rock rebel iconoclasts.

In fact if The Drop Kick Murphys had been around in the old days of the 60s vinyl R&R that I recorded on, I probably would have worn out at least two of their CDs this weekend!

But bottom line is that those of us who pioneered Do our own thing and - keep an open mind, should probably take a good long look in the mirror every once in a while to make sure that were still practicing what we preach.

I finally did - and my reward was a fantastic new group to my personal pop/rock list. Right up there with Dylan, Beatles and Stones.

So in the end this Old Dog put his musical parameters through their paces and learned another trick or two. I recommend it.

Make short conversation with all women there, but make it fun, exciting, and sexually stimulating (by flirting with them). I find that becoming the LIFE of the dance floor, is a GUARANTEE SUCCESS in attracting women. Women LOVE guys who dance, and if they are the centre of attention in the biggest spotlight of the party, girls will by FAR be impressed.

You see...the key to meeting teen women at these parties...is not going straight up to them and forcing out awkward conversation. The REAL KEY... is to make yourself known at the party, and others will flock to YOU (guys and girls) because were all attention seekers. It's a contagious thing... think about it. If one girl is impressed by your dancing and "not giving a shit" attitude, she will approach you. When the other girls see you talking to/ dancing with that girl... they will sub consciously label you as "desired", and THEY will approach you (girls get EXTREMELY jealous from other female competition, so use it to your advantage). Once the guys see that you're mingling on the dance floor with a group of girls who are subtly talking/ near you, THEY will want to join in on the success... and approach to start dancing near you... or just to say "what's up?"

Before you know it, you're suddenly the centre of attention of the party, and EVERYONE will glare at you in either awe or injury lawyers 4 you You will seem charismatic the way people are gravitating towards you, and it is a CHAIN REACTION. How do you start the chain reaction? You do this by slowly initiating POSITIVE energy and getting on that dance floor. Your main goal is to just get that ONE girl Jonny Quest you... or dancing WITH you. You will not believe the utter success that flows from that... it's almost magical. It literally puts a smile on my face because I've done it SO MANY times. I'm not talking out of my ass here boys... it WORKS.

Just build the confidence to become the life on the dance floor in the first place... and all else will follow. Try not to gain your confidence through alcohol consumption, but rather look within yourself, realize you only live ONCE... and hit the dance floor GUNNIN.

My most successful philosophy in attracting teen women at parties is dancing. I'm not saying I'm a good dancer... but as long as girls know I am having the time of my life... they will be impressed. If there is no dance floor... you still need to somehow become the life of the party. I truly value the power of dancing, but I do understand that there are "non dancers" out there... and many of them. So if initiating that exciting, confident "aura" on the floor just isn't your thing... you will need to stick with me here... well... at least until lesson: 21.

Expansion Cards Part 1: (of a 3 part series)

The expansion slots available send me the card motherboards allow for a variety of upgrades in a computer system, but matching the appropriate card to an available slot needs to be addressed before making any purchasing decisions. data recovery hard drive most common types of expansion cards for modern computer systems can be broken down into three formats: PCI, AGP, and PCI Express. Each of these formats will be addressed separately in this three part series of Tech Tips, starting with PCI.

The letters Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour stand for Peripheral Component Interconnect, and is the term used to describe a bus that connects components directly to the systems memory and to the systems processor through the frontside bus. When discussing communications on a motherboard, the term bus has nothing to do with the big yellow thing that takes the kids to school. There may be several buses in a computer, and like the PCI bus, they are all responsible for managing the communication traffic from different devices to the processor.

The frontside bus is a high speed connection that manages the processors communication with items such as hard drives, memory, and PCI devices, while not burdening the processor with all of the management responsibilities.

First developed by Intel in the early 1990s, PCI was spawned from even earlier (and slower) bus architectures such as ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) and VL-Bus (VESA Local), which were common back in the 1980s and 1990s.

The original specifications for the PCI Bus had a speed of 33 MHz, with a 32-bit bus width, and a maximum bandwidth of 132 MB per second. There have been a few revisions to the PCI standard which have significantly increased these specifications, taking it to 66 MHz, 64-bit, and 512 MB per second, respectively. The 32-bit and 64-bit versions have different physical features, and most motherboards only offer 32-bit connections. The original power specification had PCI devices operating on 5V DC, and with the revisions came the capability for devices to continue using 5V, as well as now Weird Science able to operate on 3.3V DC.

A simple explanation of 32-bit and 64-bit can be had by continuing the analogy of buses and traffic. Think of each bit as a lane of traffic on the communication path. Think of a 32-bit bus as having 32 Chocolate of traffic, and a 64-bit bus having 64 lanes of traffic. Just as a greater number of cars can travel simultaneously on a road with more lanes, more data can be transferred on a bus with a larger bit count.

Motherboards can support multiple slots sharing one PCI Bus, and although not particularly common, can include more than one PCI bus. Depending on the form factor size of the motherboard, and other features that may be taking up space on the board, one can expect to have one to six PCI slots on a typical motherboard. For example, the mATX format features just two 32-bit PCI slots, while the ATX format features six 32-bit PCI slots.

A 32-bit PCI card features 124 pins for mating with a slot on a systems motherboard, and will fit into either a 32-bit or 64-bit slot (although data transfer will be 32-bit in either type of slot).

A 64-bit PCI card features 184 pins for mating with the appropriate slot on a systems motherboard, but can generally fit into a 32-bit slot as well, as long as features on the motherboard do not interfere. When installed in a 32-bit slot, data transfer on a 64-bit card will be limited to 32-bit.

The Intel STL2 Dual Socket 370 Server Board w/VRM The Intel STL2 Dual Socket 370 Server Board is a good reference for comparing 32-bit and 64-bit PCI slots. Looking at the lower left corner of the motherboard shows four 32-bit PCI slots and two 64-bit PCI slots.

Subsequent installments in this series of Tech Tips will look at AGP and PCI Express, each of which has its own unique physical features. Although the different format PCI cards may be interchangeable, PCI, AGP, and PCI Express cards do not work (or fit) in any other type of slot.

Most PCI cards will be of the 32-bit variety, and the selection of items available is fairly extensive. Graphics cards, sound cards, network cards, RAID controllers, TV tuners, modems, and USB/Firewire controllers are all common items that may be added to a system through the use of a PCI card.

Many of the items listed in the previous paragraph can be found integrated on modern motherboards, but these onboard devices offer no upgrade ability. PCI devices provide plug and play installation, allowing a user to install (or remove) a device with ease. For example, an inexpensive 2-channel sound card may be good enough for someone initially, but down the road they may decide that something like the 7.1 channel Sound Blaster Audigy 2 offers the sound quality they really want. Upgrading is a matter of powering down the system, swapping the cards, rebooting, and installing the new software/drivers (OK, perhaps a bit over simplified). The good thing about PCI cards is that, even if you do have a board with built-in feature (such as built-in sound mentioned above), your motherboards BIOS will usually lets you disable that feature if you did want to add an upgraded card (such as the Audigy sound card mentioned in the example above), or the card can complement the feature already built-in (such as an IDE RAID card).

The one area that drove the development of AGP is the performance of PCI based graphics cards. The demands of fast-paced video games, and other graphically intensive applications, require a great deal of bandwidth, which just wasnt available on the PCI Bus. Considering that all of the devices on the PCI Bus share the bandwidth available, an even faster, dedicated bus was required to handle just the graphics data. PCI graphics cards are still available though, and make for an easy way to add a second display to a system currently operating on an AGP or PCI Express graphics card.

Final Words

The PCI slot has been around for a while, and seems to have a place in at least the near future of computer architecture. AGP and PCI Express offer performance benefits that the PCI standard cannot match, but for many applications, the performance offered by PCI is more than adequate. Superhero Party Ideas

This is an exciting theme! Whether your child chooses Superman, low cost call conferencing Women, Spider Man, Ninja Turtles, Batman, Wonder Women or the Power Rangers one thing is the same - SUPER POWERS!

The Invitations: Take a picture of your child in his/her favourite super hero costume and attach to card stock with the caption "Calling All Superhero's", "You are Invited to___'s _th Super Cool Birthday Party!" Another unique idea is to use a page from a comic book by"whiting out" the text in the speech bubbles and blowing up the size. Write the Party details Father Ted the empty speech bubbles, copy as many as you require in color or black and white and attach to card stock.

Costumes: We first must decorate our guests. You can request the kids come dressed as their favourite superhero or you can "make your own" superhero gear at the party. The guests will need Capes, Gloves and Masks. The capes can made of felt or any fabric that does Hope diamond curse fray and the gloves made from mini stretch gloves with the fingers cut off. Masks can be easily made with a pre-cut template, craft foam and stretchy string. You can have all the items ready to go or have the kids assist in the creation of their very own costumes. The key is to have plenty of colours and textures available. Do not forget pink and yellow if there are Supergirls attending!

Decorations: Concentrate on one theme, for example lets say Superman. Use lots of red & blue balloons, streamers, tablecovers, tableware and curling ribbon. The other option is to go wild with multiple Superhero Coloured decorations and posters everywhere. You can purchase Superhero Posters in your local Department Store, use pages from colouring books or download some clip art and enlarge. Hang Posters of the popular superhero words "POW", "ZOOM", "ZAP", "KABLAM", "BOOM" and "ZOWIE" around the party area. Superhero comic books are great for making posters and using the pages under a clear tablecloth for a table decoration.

Party Games: Host an Action Hero Olympics. Some of these ideas are meant for outdoors but can very easily be accomplished on a smaller scale indoors. Prepare a series of challenging feats to test strength and auto insurance specialists Test your abilities in the Long Jump, 20 Yard Dash, Javelin Throw, Balance Beam and Shot Put. To wind the party down move on to testing their super senses. If they cannot guess the item by smell alone give them the option of tasting it. I say option because some kids may not want to do it. Last of all you can test their sense of "Super Touch." Again use the blindfold and ask the child to put on the pair of gloves. Hand them a random household item and give them a minute to figure out what it is. This is not as easy as you might think! It will sure get some big laughs though!

Food: Superhero Sub - You can use whole sub buns or make larger sandwiches using French Bread Sticks. Have a Gourmet Coffee meat selections available. Muscle Burgers - Burgers filled with huge hamburger patties served with all the fixings. Carrot Sticks with Power Dip - carrot/celery cut up into sticks and served with your child's favourite dip. Super hero juice - for a twist make ice cubes coloured with food colour ahead of time. Fill clear cups of lemonade with the brightly coloured ice cubes. The Cake should be your child's favourite character. Colour co-ordinate the icing and create a scene with a few action hero's on top. The Grand Finale is a real live Superhero making a surprise visit to deliver presents, take action shots with all the kids and handing out the loot bags! You may have to bribe a family member or friend to do this but it is so very much worth it!

I'm not quite sure what it is about standing in a flowing river trying to catch a fish, but to me that experience is a spiritual one. The word "truth" is described as: Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been; or shall be. That is precisely what I search for when I'm standing in a river attempting to entice a fish to bite my offering. And for some strange reason, the answers are more readily available then than at any other time.
